A QUIET RESOURCE · PSALM 139:23–24 · PSALM 42:2 · LUKE 24:32
1. The Lord Draws Near
Read Luke 24:13–35 slowly. Picture the two disciples walking, talking about their disappointment, trying to understand what had happened. Then consider:
“Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.”
Luke 24:15, KJV
They did not yet recognize Him, yet He drew near and walked with them. Pause here. What are you carrying today that you do not fully understand? Where do you feel lost? What are you longing for? Bring these things before the Lord without pretending.
2. Search Me, O God
“Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
Psalm 139:23–24, KJV
Pray: Father, search me. Show me what I need to see. If I need to repent, lead me to repentance. If I need correction, teach me. If I am carrying fear or confusion, help me bring it honestly before Thee. I do not need to understand everything about myself before I come to Thee.
Lead me in the way everlasting.
3. My Soul Thirsteth for God
“My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?”
Psalm 42:2, KJV
Ask yourself: Am I longing for the Lord Himself, or have I begun to depend upon a particular experience of Him? What do I most desire from Him today? You need not judge your answer. Bring it honestly before Him.
Pray: Lord, Thou knowest my thirst. I desire to know Thee more deeply. I cannot manufacture spiritual life in myself, nor dictate how Thou wilt work. Help me seek Thee sincerely and remain willing to follow Thy leading.
4. Open Mine Eyes to Thee
Read Luke 24:27 and Luke 24:31–32. Jesus opened the Scriptures to the disciples before they recognized Him at the breaking of bread.
“Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?”
Luke 24:32, KJV
Pray: Lord Jesus, teach me through Thy Word. Correct my understanding where it is mistaken. Help me recognize Thy truth. Do not let me measure Thy presence only by what I feel. If my heart burns, let it be unto deeper love and obedience. If I must wait without extraordinary feelings, keep me faithful.
5. Recognize. Understand. Follow.
Recognize: Lord Jesus, open mine eyes to Thee.
Understand: Open the Scriptures to me. Teach me Thy ways.
Follow: Lead me in Thy way everlasting.
The disciples did not understand the whole road when Jesus first drew near. Yet He walked with them, taught them, and brought them to recognition. You need not know the entire way ahead before you take the next faithful step.
My Prayer
Lord Jesus, walk with me.
I do not fully understand this season of my life. I bring Thee my confusion, my thirst, and my desire for deeper fellowship with Thee.
Open mine eyes to Thee.
Search me, O God, and know my heart. Reveal what I need to see, and lead me in the way everlasting.
My soul thirsteth for Thee, the living God.
Holy Spirit, help me in my infirmities. Teach me, guide me into truth, and lead me to Christ. Help me discern and respond faithfully to what I encounter.
I will not demand a particular experience. I will not pretend that I understand everything. By Thy grace, help me seek Thee sincerely and follow Thee faithfully.
Lord Jesus, walk with me. Open mine eyes to Thee. Lead me in Thy way everlasting.
Amen.
The Lord we long to recognize is the One whose presence and work we may not yet fully understand—and whom we are called to follow.
Seeing Him. Knowing Him. Following Him.
Anywhere. Anytime. Always.
It is Christ. All along.
